I never played or watched hockey growing up. If there were games on I'd turn it off immediately, thinking it's boring. At the age of 35, I a friend gave me a pair of his Blackhawks tickets and I was hooked. I took my family back for another game and purchased my first pair of recreational skates (Bauer XLS) within a month.

I rollerbladed a lot as a kid, but was fascinated with how similar and different ice felt. After a couple of months of some mid-day public skates, I signed up for my first Adult Beginner Hockey class. Unfortunately this class didn't really explain what equipment was required/recommended or even where to go. I knew I was committed enough that I spent an entire week researching and purchased low-end/recreational gear and a second hand stick.

After taking that class for the better part of a year, a group of friends and I joined a well managed beer league. This was such a fun jump in development. We even won the championship my first season!
